Letter writing services can help home inspectors stop frivolous claims in their tracks.

Home inspectors frequently face accusations of not finding defects in a home during an inspection. Clients with complaints often do not understand that a home inspection is only a limited visual inspection of readily accessible components. In addition, homeowners may forget that they signed a pre-inspection agreement that limits the home inspector’s liability. When a client raises a complaint of a missed defect, reminding them of these points using a well crafted written response letter is usually enough to discourage a lawsuit.

We’re here to help.

As a Hanover policyholder, you can take advantage of our pre-claim assistance services. Our on-staff claim specialists are experienced in dealing with merit-less claims and can assist in a variety of situations. Plus, your
deductible does not apply until an actual claim is reported, or in the instance a potential claim escalates to require an outside attorney.

Letter writing assistance service

Simply email proclaim@hanover.com with the following details and “Letter writing help” in the subject line and a claims specialist will contact you within 48 hours:

• The signed and dated Pre-Inspection Agreement
• The Inspection Report in question
• Details of the complaint, such as what is being alleged and all written correspondence with this client
• The reason(s) you contend you’re not at fault or responsible for the basis of the complaint
• Your contact information, including an email address and phone number

Most complaints made against home inspectors are without merit, and we are pleased to offer this service to help you respond to complaints before they become actual claims. Please note that if a claim has been made against you,
frivolous or not, you must report it to us as soon as possible.

Valuable risk management resources

The Hanover also offers access to free risk management resources, including an active hotline for discussing business problems and asking questions about risk
management and best practices. The hotline is staffed by professionals with years of experience working with home inspectors who are familiar with the day-to-day
business and risk management issues facing our policyholders. More information about this offering can be found in your insurance policy.
